Since I was young, I’ve always had a fascination with calico cats. Their unique patchwork coats are simply mesmerizing and it’s hard not to be drawn to them immediately. One rescued kitten in particular, previously named Matilda, stole my heart upon first meeting her. It’s amazing how we can connect with a kitten or cat online and feel an instant bond with them.
Matilda, or rather Freya the Fluff as she’s now known, was absolutely stunning with her fluffy fur and striking calico markings. I couldn’t believe she was still available for adoption – what luck! Needless to say, I took her home and our lives haven’t been the same since.
I introduced Freya on Instagram earlier this year, sharing that we adopted her on January 12th. She was such a trooper on the car ride home, not making a sound. This little ball of fluff is incredibly brave, adores people, and loves exploring her surroundings. She was found climbing someone’s window screen and brought into a rescue at just 8 weeks old. The moment I saw her adorable little orange face on Petfinder, I knew she was the one for me.
What’s the story behind your adorable feline friend, Freya? Well, I had been searching for a cute kitten to bring home for quite some time when I stumbled upon Freya’s picture and immediately fell in love with her cute little orange face. After showing her picture to my fiancรฉ, he too was smitten with her! I knew that she was at an adoption event and would have many applicants vying for her attention, but surprisingly, we were the ones chosen to take her home. It was like fate brought us together!
As for her name, she was originally named Matilda by her rescuers, but I knew that we needed something that suited her personality better. After a few days of brainstorming, I settled on Aelin, but it just didn’t feel right once we met her. It was actually my fiancรฉ who suggested the name Freya, after a character from one of my favorite TV shows, The Originals. When I called out her new name, she responded with the tiniest meow and we knew that it was perfect for her.
Now, what is Freya like as a cat? Well, she has a very unique personality that is hard to describe. She is definitely adventurous and loves to explore every nook and cranny of our home. She is also very playful and loves to chase after toys, especially ones with feathers on them. When she’s not playing, you can usually find her lounging in a sunny spot or snuggling up next to us on the couch.
As for her hobbies, she definitely loves to play and explore, but she also enjoys cuddling and getting attention from her humans. She’s a social butterfly and loves to be around people as much as possible.
While Freya is the only pet in our household, she definitely holds a special place in our hearts. She brings so much joy and happiness to our lives and we couldn’t imagine our home without her.
How would you describe Freya’s character?
Freya is a kitten with an admirable level of bravery. Her confidence and boldness make her stand out among her peers. Despite this, she has a sweet disposition and enjoys being around people. You can often find her following you around the house, keeping a watchful eye on your activities.
What does Freya like to do for fun?
One of Freya’s favorite pastimes is sitting in the window and observing the various birds and squirrels in the yard. She also has a passion for learning new things and has already mastered the command to sit. Our current focus is training her to go into her backpack and lie down. Additionally, Freya loves playing around!
Do you know if Freya shares her home with any furry friends? Well, she does! Meet Kayden, her loyal 10-year-old doggo brother, and Dior, her adorable feline companion. But that’s not all that makes Freya special. She’s the sweetest cat you’ll ever meet! Her affectionate nature is contagious, and everyone who meets her falls in love with her. She’s not shy around new people either; in fact, she’ll come right up to you and nuzzle against you for some affection.
