Meet Oliver, a cute Seal Point Mitted Ragdoll born on May 11, 2017. He was adopted from AdorableDolls Ragdolls in Roseville, CA. As someone who had been dreaming of having a sweet and mild-tempered Ragdoll for ten years, I did my research and read about this breed extensively before finally getting Oliver. Oliver is everything I could have wanted and more! He’s not only sweet but also incredibly intelligent. In addition, he is so expressive, with a plethora of facial expressions that make him absolutely adorable. It’s difficult to scold him for doing something he shouldn’t be doing because his facial expressions are so amusing.
Oliver has a multitude of toys to play with, but his top picks are the “balls in a box” and the “cubes with a tunnel”. Although most kittens would typically bat the balls around and be entertained, Oliver has taken it to another level. He ingeniously learned how to push the balls out of the side of the box. With much enthusiasm, he puts his face in the holes to locate the balls, then meticulously pushes them out of the side of the box. He eagerly pops his head up to observe whether the ball came out successfully. The balls with holes or those made of cloth can be conveniently picked up and placed back in the container. I have a video recorded of him pushing four balls out and replacing one, which is utterly adorable!
At a mere 12 weeks of age, Oliver showed exceptional climbing skills and surprised his owner by climbing up a ladder. The owner had been watering plants on a large kitchen stepstool when they turned around to find Oliver following close behind. Moreover, Oliver has also learned how to play fetch. Initially, the owner noticed that Oliver would carry his favorite toys around and so started throwing them for him, instructing him to bring them back. Although Oliver has now grasped the concept, he often takes the “scenic route” when returning the toy mouse or ball to his owner for another throw.
Just like any other typical toddler, my pet Oliver has his own way of communicating with me. Whenever I am on the phone, he brings to me the things that he wants me to throw. Lately, his favourite toy has been a set of cubes that come with a tunnel. The cubes are filled with balls, much like a bouncy house for children. As he runs through the tunnel, the balls go flying everywhere and he has a blast doing so. It’s become somewhat of a routine for me to constantly interrupt my conversation and praise him, saying “good boy, Oliver!”. Currently, we’re trying to work on his behaviour around his “sister”, Sunny. Sunny is a 9-year-old Orange Tabby who is okay with Oliver being around, but not with him jumping on her. We’re making progress, but we still have a long way to go before they can get along comfortably.
