“Pico The Blind Cat: A Senior Feline with a Unique and Inspiring Story”

Meet Monica and her beloved feline companion, Pico. Monica had always dreamed of having a cat of her own and at the age of nine, her family granted her wish by getting her a kitty. Since then, Monica and Pico have grown up together in Canada and have become the best of friends. However, Pico has a unique feature that has caught the attention of many on social media. He suffers from bilateral glaucoma which has caused him to lose his sight completely. Despite this, Monica’s love for Pico has not wavered and she ensures that he lives the most beautiful life possible until his very last breath. I was fortunate enough to speak with Monica and learn more about her one-of-a-kind feline friend.

Can you share the story behind how Pico became a part of your family?
As a kid, I had always wanted a furry companion, particularly a cat. One day, my parents surprised me on my birthday by agreeing to get me a pet. We decided to adopt a cat from a local vet who was in need of a home. When we inquired about cats available for adoption, we were told that there was one feline who was recovering from a car accident and was looking for a family. Upon meeting him, we instantly fell in love with his sweet and cuddly demeanor. He had striking green eyes at the time, and we knew he was meant to be ours. That’s how Pico came into our lives!
What is the story behind Pico’s name?
Pico’s name was coined by my dad, who noticed the dots on his body. In French, dots are referred to as ‘pico’, which inspired the name we gave our beloved cat.

He displays an endearing, childlike demeanor that exudes warmth and affection. He craves attention and often trails me around the house, eagerly seeking my touch. His cuddly nature is apparent, as he enjoys snuggling with me in bed and becomes utterly relaxed when I brush him.

What activities does he enjoy the most?
He delights in sleeping and eating, and when it’s mealtime, he becomes quite animated and enthusiastic. During warmer months, he relishes going outdoors to explore and bask in the sun. It brings him great pleasure to roam around and take in new surroundings.

Is there something unique about my furry friend Pico that I’d like to share with you? Well, yes! Even though he’s visually impaired, he has a remarkable way of navigating his way around the house. Having spent eight years with him, our bond is so strong that I would go to great lengths to ensure his comfort and well-being. And for those who may be concerned about his eyes, let me put your worries to rest. Pico does not experience any discomfort, and we regularly visit the vet and provide him with eye drops to help manage his condition. So, rest assured that I treat him like royalty and take good care of him.
