Let me introduce you to Monica and her beloved kitty, Pico. Monica had always aspired to become a crazy cat lady and at the age of nine, her family gifted her a kitty. Since then, Monica and Pico have been inseparable and they have grown up together in Canada. But what makes Pico unique is his condition called bilateral glaucoma which left him completely blind. However, this has not affected Monica’s love for him, instead, she strives to make every moment of his life beautiful until his last breath. Recently, Pico gained attention on social media due to his unique feature and I got the chance to talk to Monica about her one-of-a-kind feline friend. Can you share the story of how Pico became a part of your life?
Back when I was just a kid of nine, all I ever wanted was a feline companion. After much pleading with my parents, they finally agreed to get me a cat for my birthday. We decided to adopt a pet from the vet who needed a loving home. When we called them up, we learned that there was a cat who was recovering from a car accident and looking for adoption. The moment we met him, we knew he was the one. He was cuddly, sweet, and utterly adorable, with beautiful green eyes that melted our hearts. And so, we took him home with us and welcomed him into our family with open arms.
What inspired the name Pico for your beloved cat?
My dad was the one who came up with the name Pico, which is perfect for our little guy. You see, Pico has these tiny dots on his body, and in French, dots are known as “Pico.” So it was only fitting that we gave him this unique and meaningful name.
Can you describe his personality?
He’s quite similar to a big baby, always seeking attention and following me around the house. He is incredibly affectionate and loves nothing more than cuddling up with me on my bed. Interestingly, he seems to have an unusual fascination with brushes, which I use to groom him.
What does he enjoy doing in his spare time?
His two favourite pastimes are sleeping and eating – he can sleep for hours on end, but as soon as it’s mealtime, he becomes incredibly excited and enthusiastic. During the summer months, he enjoys going outside to explore and bask in the sunshine. It’s definitely his favourite thing to do!
Do you know what makes my furry friend Pico so unique? Well, he may be blind, but he navigates his way around the house like a pro. It’s been eight years since I brought him home, and our bond is unbreakable. I would go to any lengths to ensure his happiness and well-being. As for his eyes, he’s not in any pain, and I’ve taken him to the vet multiple times. We provide him with eye drops to keep him comfortable. So, there’s no need to fret about Pico’s condition. He’s living life like royalty under my care.
