In the surroundings of the Greek port of Nafplion, a helpless pitbull named Lara was discovered abandoned. The dog’s owner had not only left her in the middle of nowhere but also tied her to a tree, without any food or water. Lara was left to her own fate, feeling lonely and scared in such a situation. Unfortunately, the people living nearby knew about her presence in the woods but avoided approaching her because of her breed. It remains unknown how long Lara was left tied to that tree, and to make things worse, she was pregnant. Despite being afraid and alone in the forest, Lara gave birth to four adorable puppies, unable to go anywhere.
Lara, a courageous dog, managed to care for her puppies for ten days without sufficient food despite her difficult circumstances. The village residents refused to take responsibility for her, but fortunately, an animal welfare group was alerted to her situation. Upon arriving at the scene, rescuers found a weak and emaciated Lara tied to a tree, yet they were pleasantly surprised to witness her playful puppies. It was evident that Lara had used every resource at her disposal to safeguard her young ones, including feeding them with whatever little nourishment she could find. Her maternal instincts were truly remarkable.
The mother dog had put in immense effort, but unfortunately, the tiniest puppy did not survive after 10 days of struggle. However, the remaining four pups pulled through with the help of their brave mom. Eventually, the rescuers found a foster home for Lara and her litter, thanks to the efforts of Linda from The Orphan Pet who didn’t hesitate to take care of all of them.
After being rescued and taken in by Linda, Lara’s behavior changed as she became shy and hesitant to trust her new owner. Even the mamma dog stopped eating, indicating the trauma she had been through. As time passed, Lara understood that Linda was there to provide support and care. Gradually, she started feeling more at ease and comfortable in her new surroundings.
